Migrating from Delphi 2006 to Delphi XE2

In delphi 2006 there is a codebase without development in recent years. If you need to activate the development, what are the options.

  • Continue development in 2006. (Not sure about IDE support, etc.).
  • Go to Delphi XE2. (Not sure what you need)
  • Recode it in Java.

The second option seems to be more viable, but what will it do for this? I read some information about Unicode support, and I'm also not sure about the support of the graphics library.

Just to put things in perspective, I am a Java programmer all together with experience in C / C ++. However, I am trying to understand this more in terms of what is the least sustainable way to transition to a market strategy.

Thanks in advance.

So, you can choose between a complete rewrite or recompile something and partially rewrite it if there is a problem with old components.

Also read this old but good text: Things You Should Not Do, Part 1

However, you need business reasons for rewriting and someone is willing to pay for it.
