Stop Chrome trying to always update Java and Silverlight when running applets / plugins?

We recently added a Silverlight-based plugin (Plupload) that works fine except for one problem:

If you try to use it in Chrome, your browser will display the message "Silverlight was blocked because it is out of date."

I appreciate that Google is trying to get users to update (which they have never done before), but this has increased the load on our support at one time. Does anyone know how to make it work in Chrome via Javascript / HTML?

We saw the same problem with many sites using Java applets. Since Oracle constantly has minor updates, it seems almost impossible to stay “up to date”, so you asked to update 9/10 times.
