Can we edit page metadata in Tridion using SiteEdit 2009?

In SDL Tridion 2009 SP1, we added Components that are added to the Structural Groups and Page Metadata, which are then displayed on the page as a component view. We did this so that users can set global content for each section of the site without having to add it to every page in the Structural Group.

When we display a component with a component template using manual tags, we get a red border around the presentation, and a tooltip in the SiteEdit field says “Deleted”. When using the same component template on the "Presentation of components" tab and displaying that the page contains editable content.

Is it possible to use SiteEdit 2009 for in-line editing of a component added to the metadata of pages / group structures?

Note. We are aware of an outstanding error in SDL Tridion 2009 SP1 when you open a component added to the metadata of a Page / Structure Group that always opens it for reading only. Could this be the reason?

This can be done, but you must make sure that your markup is correct. I did this earlier by marking the representation of the SiteEdit component as QueryBased, which seems to make SiteEdit ignore its usual rules, in which the component should be added to the list of component views
