Ruby on Rails: Advanced Search

I'm having trouble understanding the best way to create an advanced search form. I had good searches on the Internet, looking at some paths, but I cannot get them to work, as most of the offers are outdated. I already asked a question, but I think it was too specific and I could not fix my problem. I want to search in different text fields and drop-down boxes with a single search button.

A simple explanation can be found in this rails cast

Basically, we need to check if the parameters contain a specific field and create a filter. See the example below:

An alternative is Ransack . Ransack allows you to create both simple and advanced search forms for your Ruby on Rails application.
