The best way to notify users about work items

I want to notify users of their list / status of their work items through a notification.

Instead of sending email notifications, is it possible to display notifications in Tridion? Say, for example: the presence of a new element, for example, "Notifications" under the labels → mytasks?

Or is there a better way to notify users other than email, because users don’t want to receive so many emails in their inbox.
