You need a simple and flexible web interface for the data warehouse built into SQL Server 2008. I would like you to be able to view both SSRS reports and SSAS cubes for viewing.
It looks like Microsoft wants us all to use Sharepoint for this, but I want me to be able to expose both internal users and clients, so I don't think Sharepoint will work (right?).
Another great approach people do seems to be encoding an ASP.NET custom application that I don't want to do.
Basically, you just need something like Cognos or Business Objects, but as an SSRS and SSAS interface, and not some kind of proprietary data structure.
Why it is so hard to find - it seems that this would be a common need. Why doesn't Microsoft do this?
Only the one I have found so far is the reporting portal (www.reportportal.com), which seems pretty good, but not stellar. As for the big guys, it looks like MicroStrategy (microstrategy.com) can work with its own SSAS cubes, but for general reporting there are own structures. The graphs and interface look pretty good, so I would like to hear from those who have experience integrating Microstrategy and SQL Server.
Thank!
