So, I am studying an exam, and one of the questions involves calculating the various properties of the disk. I did a fair research on questions and sample formulas, but since I'm a little unsure of what I came up with, I was wondering if you can help confirm my formulas / answers?
Information provided:
Rotation speed = 6000 rpm
Surfaces = 6
Sector size = 512 bytes
Sectors / Track = 500 (average)
Tracks / surfaces = 1000
Average search time = 8 ms
Search time for one track = 0.4 ms
Maximum search time = 10 ms
Questions:
Calculate the following
(i) Disc capacity
(ii) Maximum transfer rate for one track
(iii) Calculate the required amount of cylinder skew (in sectors)
(iv) Maximum transfer speed (in bytes) per cylinder (skewed cylinder)
My answers:
(i) Sector size x Sectors per track x Tracks per surface x Number of surfaces
512 x 500 x 1000 x 6 = 1,536,000,000 bytes
(ii) Sectors per track x Sector size x Rotation speed per second
500 x 512 x (6000/60) = 25,600,000 bytes per second
(iii) (Track search time / Time for 1 turn) x Sectors per track + 4
(0.4 / 0.1) x 500 + 4 = 24
(iv) Without really knowing this, to be honest, any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.
