Npm jquery installation fails with node -gyp rebuild error

I cannot get jquery to install in the latest version of npm / node. Here's the stack trace:

I cannot get jquery to install in the latest version of npm / node.

Recent versions of Node.JS v0.8.8 (stable) ( release notes , download ) and v0.9.0 (unstable) .

You are currently executing v0.9.1-pre- assembling development from work performed for release v0.9.1.

And, what is the problem:

Error: "pre" version of node could not be installed
