How is the iPhone 5 armv7s processor different from its predecessors?

iPhone 5 is Apple's first armv7s processor.

Is the instruction set identical?

How about backward compatibility? Will iPhone 5 be able to run applications compiled for the armv6 and armv7 architectures?

AnandTech analyzes the new processor: http://www.anandtech.com/show/6292/iphone-5-a6-not-a15-custom-core

The main difference seems to be that ARMv7s supports VFPv4 (but you should read the full article very carefully).

The processor is backward compatible, it will be able to run applications compiled for both ARMv6 and ARMv7.
