EDI Processing Overview

I am new to EDI and must implement it on the old system.

I want to make sure that I have the correct top-level overview:

1) Create an EDI file from my system for this trading partner 2) Maybe FTP them with it 3) ftp'd answer for me and I scratch it back to my system

Do I have a concept down?

I understand that most trading partners set standards, so is there a lot of work?

You have a VERY high level workflow

As always, the devil is in the details.

  • Terminology - segments / elements / delimiters

  • Data Conversion (ISA / GS / SE segments)

  • Envelope Control Numbers

  • Is communication really FTP? clear or safe? What about VAN or AS2 protocols?
