I get a weird error when creating Excel Power Power View worksheets from an Analysis Services (SSAS) Tabular instance running on an Azure VM in the cloud. Here is the error:
Sorry, something went wrong when loading the model for the item or data source "xxxxxx.cloudapp.net Tableular Model". Verify that the connection information is correct and that you have permissions to access the data source.
The strange thing is that I can successfully create regular pivot tables from it; I get an error when I try to make Power View sheets. Which would make me think that I am connecting to a multi-dimensional SSAS database, but I am not. Here are a few things I've already tried:
- Forwarded the default port 2383 SSAS in Azure and opened it in the Windows firewall (this allowed me to view the cube with connected pivot tables).
- Make sure my login has permissions in the SSAS database (I'm not using Windows Authentication)
- Checked compatibility version with SSAS table, it is 1103
- Checked the compatibility level of the SSAS Tableular SSDT project, it is also 1103
- Make sure SQL Server Browser is running (I read somewhere that might be the problem)
- I tried to open port 80 and 443 in case they were needed for something, they didnโt help ...
- I tried to track the use of the Excel port to check if it tried to use other ports, did not see anything except 2383
