Capture Ctrl + Alt + Del. VMWare does this, but it shouldn't, right?

I spent my entire computing life (at least with Windows NT 4.0), based on the assumption that the Ctrl+ Alt+ key combination is Delsupported by the operating system link - that no program can usurp this key combination and it will always be captured by the kernel security level and will cause an interrupt with the highest priority, which will lead to the display of the security screen (with the exception of Windows XP Home Edition, when it called the shell directly in the task manager).

However, today I used VMWare Player and I let it grab my mouse and keyboard, but after I finished, I wanted to get out and forgot the hotkey combination (note the future link, I need to double-tap Ctrl+ Alt). I thought I Ctrl+ Alt+ Delto call the security screen and switch the focus to the Task Manager, but when I pressed the button, VMWare Player rebooted my virtual machine - somehow he captured keystroke.

So, this experience taught me that processes can capture CAD, but how did he do it?

Update:

  • I am running Windows 7 x64.
  • I want to know how VMWare is able to capture CAD keystrokes.
