Why am I getting an error when trying to install socket.io with nmp

Why am I getting this error when trying to install socket.io. I use the latest version of NodeJS and set the path variable. I am using Windows 7 with administrator privileges in cmd.

Try adding c:\windows\system32to yours PATH. Since you are using cmd as an administrator, directories will be different.

See socket.io problem, report here . Another similar problem in Windows on fooobar.com/questions/1147824 / ... .

Mac. , Socket.io.

:

npm install socket.io@"~0.8.1"

0.8.0 0.8.9, 0.9.0 .

Socket.io then installed perfectly.

sudo npm install -g node-gyp

socket.io... , node-gyp:

Visual Studio, gyp, , --msvs_version=2012.

:

  • set GYP_MSVS_VERSION=2012 Visual Studio 2012
  • set GYP_MSVS_VERSION=2013e ( "e" "-" )

.  - https://github.com/joyent/node/blob/v0.10.29/tools/gyp/pylib/gyp/MSVSVersion.py#L209-294

This still hurts Windows users from NodeJS, as it assumes you have a copy of Python and Visual Studio installed, and many end users will never have this. Therefore, I am lobbying Joyent to encourage them to include web sockets as part of the CORE node, as well as to possibly send the GNU gcc compiler as part of the NodeJS installation so that we can fix this problem for a long time.
