What is the difference between “Windows Phone apps” and “Silverlight for Windows Phone apps”?

I watched a video tutorial on developing applications for Windows Phone 7 (and on this basis I was hoping to develop applications for Windows 8;) The guy in the video tutorial used Visual Studio 2010, and I have Visual Studio 2012. He created a new project using the option "New → Project → Silverlight for Windows Phone. " Although I do not have such an option, I have the option "New → Project → Windows Phone." It made me wonder if there is a difference between the two. Can someone explain the difference between the two, if any?

Visual Studio 2010 can only create applications for Windows Phone 7. And Silverlight is the only API available to third-party developers on WP7 (even XNA is based on Silverlight).

In Windows Phone 8 (supported by Visual Studio 2012), new types of applications were added: native (based on C ++), HTML5 ... Why calling the category "Silverlight for Windows Phone" no longer makes sense, and it was simply renamed "Windows Phone".

It is just a name; it does not matter to you. When you create a new Windows Phone Application project, Visual Studio will ask you which version you want to configure. If you select “Windows Phone 7.1,” you will get the same API as in Visual Studio 2010.
