Browser support for UTF-8 characters

I would like to replace some image icons on one of my sites with UTF-8 characters. It seems that not every font in every browser supports all UTF-8 characters. Is there a review where UTF-8 characters are safe to use with standard browser fonts (Verdana, Arial, etc.)?

There is no font that supports all Unicode characters (what do you mean by UTF-8 characters). Verdana and Arial are not standard, just ordinary, and the font can exist in different versions (with different character repertoires).

, . Windows Glyph List 4 - , , . , .
