How accurate is the triangulated GPS version of the non-3G iPhone?

Does anyone have any experience with the triangulated GPS used by a non-3G iPhone? How to compare this with 3G positioning? Does iPhone 3G use triangulation in the absence of a GPS signal? Is there any need to determine the accuracy of non-3G coordinates? Thank you

I made a lot of mobile software with many different devices, including 3G iphones and 3G Blackberry, and this is what I found.

Blackberry and iPhone GPS are really good when you have clear visibility and at least 9 satellites. In some dense residential or urban areas, you can only get 5-6 satellites, which may take some time to converge.
