DotNetNuke Update

I need to update the current version of DNN this week. I am currently using 2.1.1. I do not want to do everything twice, so I have a few questions.

  • Is there an update tool or some scripts somewhere that will help me do the update.
  • I better install 4.9 or 5.0. This is a production.
  • If I go with 4.9, can I upgrade to 5.0 when it is released?

Honestly, I do not know. But I see that the DNN download page very strongly states that candidates for release 5.0 are "NOT RECOMMENDED FOR PRODUCTIVE USE".

There were a huge number of changes between 2x and 3x, which will lead to almost any custom modules that you need to upgrade or replace. In addition, Mitchell is a DNN man, and I would put him off.
