Experience in internationalizing / translating applications using crowd sources? Mechanical Turk?

I developed a web application using internationalization best practices, such as placing all of my displayed lines in property files, etc. etc.

I would like to have lines in property files translated into 5 different languages.

Does anyone have experience using Mechanical Turk or another crowd search service to translate into a language?

The reason I don’t want to hire a translation company or service is because I want to end up with persistent content transferred to the translation service through the API.

My Google results for more information on this topic were surprisingly grim. Any links or pointers appreciated.

If your software is open source, you can use Launchpad for translation.
