Drupal 6 vs. Drupal 7 Performance

I want to start a new project and stick to which version to use without any idea.

I have vast experience with D6, as well as one project (module development) for D7. It seems that the D7 is slower, has more memory, and also lacks documentation at the moment. I do not need the new CCK, Views and others - it seems that I will code all the functions needed as modules.

Does D7 have sweet parts now, or is the best way to develop a project for D6?

How do you choose for yourself and why?
