Xml placement in spring REST endpoint does not get unmarshalled into corresponding Java object

I have a project where xsd are given. I am using the xjc compiler to generate Java classes. And then I annotate the class with the XmlRootElement attribute. I configured sevlet with Jaxb2 marshalling / unmarshalling bean in AnnotationMethodHandlerAdapter. when i send xml, without namespaces, i get 415 error.
