I want to know how to create a new Swing Control.
My problem is due to the lack of some components in Swing (e.g. datepicker)
I looked at Qaru (and some other sites) and found some old answers, but to no avail (several links no longer work).
So could you point me in some direction?

Take a look at SwingX , which describes some of the missing components that you noticed in the Swing core!
Believe me, you do not want to implement your own DatePicker. SwingX has one (JXDatePicker), it works very well, see more here .
