The correct Mac dev. environment with Rails and PHP

I made a mess out of my MAMP setting. I used it all the time for WordPress and Drupal, but now I want to try and learn Rails. After trying to install Rails, I now have 2 versions of MySQL competing with each other, and of course it doesn’t work.

So: I am wondering what the “right” way to set this up so that they play well together.

Advice on setting up an "appropriate" Mac OS development environment for PHP and Rails is very welcome.

thank

Terry
