Cloud computing

I am wondering if there is anyone who uses a desktop or laptop to build cluster or cloud computing? For example, I would like to use the following machines to cluster together:

  • 20 desktop computers, each machine has 2 ~ 3G RAM, 1Tb Disk, linux machine
  • 100M ethernet with internal IP address.
  • Sun (Oracle) Grid Engine

  • no NAS

    How to make sure:

  • high affordable

  • high performance

    Does anyone have a similar experience to share?
