Sharepoint Foundation 2010 Search Not Available

I just completed the installation of SharePoint Foundation 2010 and I can’t find a job.

There is no service application in the Central Administration for searching.

When I go to the "Manage Content Database Settings" page, the "Select Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Search Server" option is grayed out.

In the Services MMC, the "SharePoint Foundation V4 Search Service" appears as disabled. I can start this service for a short time, but in the end it will stop and automatically return to the disabled state.

What did we do wrong to make the search completely inaccessible in our installation of SharePoint Foundation 2010? How do we fix this?

EDIT --->

I changed the log account for the SharePoint Foundation Search V4 service. The service now starts automatically and is no longer disabled. However, when I go to Central Admin-> Manage Service Applications, I still cannot see the search service listed. I also cannot assign a search server to content databases.

I tried to restore the installation of SharePoint and reload the field. I feel like I'm one step closer, but I still don't have the search features on the site.

EDIT # 2 --->

I checked the databases on this system and there is no search database. Our old WSS 3.0 system created a database for searching SharePoint. I'm not sure if this database is missing from the Foundation 2010 server or if 2010 no longer uses a separate database?
