How to reopen a closed Android project?

I use Eclipse to develop Android projects. I tried to open a closed project, but received the following message ...

Project description file (.project) for missing. This file contains important information about the project. The project will not work properly while this file is being restored.

I thought I could just create a project from my source folders (using Windows Explorer), but the projects completely disappeared (and I did not backup to an external drive)

Any suggestions on returning these projects?

closing a project does not delete the .project file. Something else happened to remove it.

To "recover" from this situation, I would do the following:

  • Android.
  • eclipse
  • ( ).
  • eclipse.
  • Android.
