JQuery or Silverlight in situations where they will work?

In the past, I have always advocated using jQuery instead of Flash whenever possible, mainly due to SEO issues.

From what I understand, Silverlight does not have the same problems with search bots. The more I use jQuery, the more I like it, but I wonder how the pros and cons compare with the benefits of Silverlight.

In situations where you can use jQuery or Silverlight, are there any documented reasons or against using any technology?

Don’t understand jQuery is great, and often this is the right answer and a good one. Even Microsoft abandoned its own Ajax platform and jumped on the jQuery winner, and for good reason. This is a good technology and is often used successfully.

But if you are creating an application that uses HTML as your interface, you can simply launch another application, resolving the same problem, but providing a richer user interface. Even if the other guy had to create several user interfaces, he could still be a winner.
