I want to write an application to get PBS cluster status updates, which platform is the easiest to learn?

Direct question: I have a clear problem - I have a PBS cluster with Ubuntu - I know C / C ++ well. I want to write a mobile application that can request the status of my cluster. Most likely, I will have to learn another language for developing a mobile application.

Which platform should I choose: Android, iOS, Blackberry or something else? What is the easiest picking platform?

Note: my contract is to work on my phone, so I'm ready to switch to any platform that is easiest to learn.

Background . In about a month, I’m going to burn a candle from both ends to develop server-side material - mostly written in Perl and / or PHP. Suppose that I will serve most of the data like HTML and RSS, but also allow authenticated requests to receive job status, error reports, etc.

I have a suspicion that Java is probably the best way to go, and I already like the eclipse development environment. But I really don't know where to start from a platform perspective. I tried to land an Android book or two of the local boundaries before they closed, but I was so busy that I didn't get there before they left.

Any thoughts are welcome.

Would I gladly move this question if it is more appropriate elsewhere?
