Can Windows and Linux developers work together on the same project using C # and ASP.net?

If a development team is working on a project written using ASP.net and C # in a Windows environment with Visual Studio, is there a way that a developer can join his team and work with them in a project in Linux? I know about the open source, cross-platform development platform Mono , can this be an option or Windows developers will have to use this, how does it work? Is the best option for a Linux developer to simply install a Windows partition or join them without it?
