FPGA limit for the number of configurations?

I'm interested in FPGA technology. I would like to buy one to test the hardware implementation / acceleration of several algorithms, but I think that there should be a hardware limitation on how many times I can reconfigure one board or one matrix cell. Is there such a restriction? If so, what is the average and which are the best suppliers to provide such products?
