SMS options for my web application

I want to integrate SMS into my web application. My customers will be businesses that will use the web application to update their customers.

I looked at several providers in the UK, and the typical cost per message is 5p. Given the number of SMS messages, I expect one of my clients to send to their customers in one day, this price is impractical. I canโ€™t pay the bill, my clients will not pay the bill, but maybe my clients will be.

Given this problem, what are my options? I thought I could send SMS messages and the recipient would pay? is there such a mechanism?

Twitter should send millions of SMS messages per day, how do they pay for it?

Take a look at Tropo : they offer UK numbers and have a reasonable API that you can integrate into your website.

Twitter just pays money, and a lot of it: Iโ€™m sure that they receive decent discounts in their volume, but itโ€™s still a ton of money.

Instead of buying an X-package for a message package, you can subscribe to an SMS Y-package per month. I remember how Tyntec offered such services several years ago. You might want to drop them to check the details.

Before answering, I checked Clickatell. The lowest price I saw was 3p. http://www.clickatell.com/pricing/pricing_wizard.php
