How to get Internet Explorer to open the current executable instance instead of creating a new one?

How to programmatically launch IE ( iexplore.exe) and navigate in the currently running instance (by opening a new tab or replacing the current URL) Instead of creating a new instance.

I searched for the command line switch and tried to use InternetExplorer.Application, but to no avail.

Here is the pseudo of what I need (IE6-IE9 will be nice):
