Domain Expiration Period

Good afternoon!

I have read several articles about the domain redemptionPeriod, but cannot find a clear answer. How long is this period? Someone says 30 days, another says that 45. Maybe it depends on some parameters, such as registar domain, zone, etc.? I would like to buy a domain in .comand here is some information about it:

Status: redemptionPeriod
Date of renovation: April 04, 2012
Creation date: 24-feb-2009
Expiration date: February 24-2012

So when will it be available for purchase?

And another question: is it true that the only way to get it is to bid at the auction? Perhaps you can buy it as a regular domain?
