Mailchimp and old users

I have a database of users who have subscribed to my web application in the last few months.

Now I would like to use Mailchimp to send them newsletters. Can I just add their email addresses to the mailing list and start sending out their newsletters or, before, Mailchimp will send them an email asking them to indicate if they want to be added to my mailing list?
