What I'm trying to achieve:
Take a look at the following image from this article.

It takes a road graph, which is probably represented as segments / transitions giving the line width (call it what you like, sweep, thicken), and then create triangular geometry for the roads.
Why am I asking this question:
This operation seems to be a pretty standard thing, but I cannot write any documents that directly relate to how to do this. Most GIS / procedural city creation documents focus on generating the road schedule itself (for example, creating interesting topologies), but the step of getting the graph data and creating triangular grids / UVs is always obscured.
