PHP function to increment a variable by 1 each time

I started writing a PHP script for the creature game, there are 4 yes / no questions and what I'm trying to do is write a function that will display 2 buttons that say yes and no and give different names each the time I run the function, for example yes1 and no1, the next time the function starts, the button names will be yes2 and no2.

I tried to do this already, but it does not work correctly, below the code that I have done so far, any help would be greatly appreciated.

To do this, you need to maintain state between requests.

You need to save the "number" in the session, because it will lose its value on every page.
